Former captain and Pakistan batting stalwart Babar Azam became the highest run-getter in T20 Internationals on Friday, leapfrogging India opener Rohit Sharma to the top spot.
Azam achieved the feat while scoring an unbeaten 11 from 18 balls in the second T20I against South Africa in Lahore. Pakistan won the game by nine wickets, chasing down a paltry target of 111.
The Pakistan batter has now amassed 4234 runs in 123 matches at an average of 39.57. Rohit Sharma sits in second place with 4231 runs across 151 innings at an average of 32.05, followed by Virat Kohli (4188 runs in 117 innings at an average of 48.69).
However, Azam’s strike rate of 128.77, which has long been a point of contention, pales in comparison to that of Sharma (140.89) and Kohli (137.04).
Azam was recalled to the T20I side after he was sidelined in December 2024.
