In a thrilling WPL 2026 encounter, UP Warriorz clinched a seven-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. Under the leadership of Meg Lanning, the team successfully chased down a target of 162 runs in just 18.1 overs, losing only three wickets. A standout performer was Harleen Deol, who played a pivotal role in the chase, scoring an impressive 64 not out from just 39 balls, featuring 12 boundaries.
Reflecting on her match-winning innings, Deol shared her joy for the team’s success. “It feels great; I’m happy for the team securing our first win. I was actually batting well yesterday too. As you saw today, Chloe (Tryon) can really change the game. I approached it that way. She has the ability to hit big, but things didn’t go as planned. That’s how I view it,” she stated, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
This victory marked UP Warriorz’s first success in the current tournament, bringing their record to one win and three losses after four matches.
Deol also mentioned her routine preparations and familiarity with the Navi Mumbai pitch. “It was just the usual prep for me. I got a few balls that were easy to hit; sometimes it’s just your day. I was batting well yesterday too, and there was no need to dwell on my previous performance (where I retired out). I was overhitting in the first two games. This wasn’t the kind of wicket for that,” she added.
Post-match, captain Lanning praised the team’s efforts but acknowledged the need for greater consistency. She noted Deol’s exceptional performance and expressed hope that it would boost the young cricketer’s confidence. “We’ve seen lots of positives in the first three games, but our consistency needs improvement. Tonight, we bounced back well to defeat a strong MI team. It’s been a learning experience for both me and the team. We’ve played good cricket, but not always consistently. We’ve discussed our approach, and we believe in ourselves. I had a quick chat with Deol; she handled yesterday well and showcased her capabilities in this format. I hope this performance instills confidence in her,” said the 33-year-old skipper.
