In the final match of ODI Women`s World Cup 2025 against South Africa, Team India emerged victorious by 52 runs at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
Under the leadership of skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, the “Women in Blue” scripted history by clinching their first-ever World Cup title.
In the title clash, Harmanpreet accumulated 20 runs in 29 balls, including two boundaries. She also took the final catch of the match, which in turn helped the hosts seal the victory.
The Indian skipper then shared a post on her official social media handle with the elusive showpiece. “Some dreams are shared by a billion people. That’s why cricket is everyone’s game. #CricketIsEveryonesGame,” read the post`s caption.
The 36-year-old cricketer also overtook Australian batter Belinda Clark to have the most runs across all ICC Women`s ODI World Cup knockout matches. Now in four innings across all ICC knockout matches, she has accumulated 331 runs at an average of 110.33, with a century and two fifties. Belinda is placed in the second spot with 330 runs in six innings at an average of 55.00, with four fifties and a best score of 91.
The Indian skipper also concluded the ODI Women`s World Cup 2025 with 260 runs in eight innings. Her best score in the tournament is 89 runs, with an average of 32.50 and two half-centuries.
During the final match, in an attempt to chase the target of 299 runs, the Proteas were bowled out for 246 runs in 45.3 overs.
Deepti Sharma was the most successful bowler for the hosts. Bowling 9.3 overs, she bagged five wickets for 39 runs. Shafali Verma, too, claimed two wickets by conceding 36 runs in seven overs. Nallapureddy Charani picked up one wicket for 48 runs in nine overs.
Verma was named as the “Player of the Match” as she also played a knock of 87 runs during India`s innings.
Following the historic triumph, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also announced a prize money of Rs 51 crore to the “Women in Blue”.
