Ahead of the three-match ODI series against Australia, Team India`s newly appointed skipper Shubman Gill said that the team wants the two veterans, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, to bring their experience to the table.
“They`ve been playing for India for the past 10-15 years and winning matches for us. The experience that they bring to the table is something every captain or every team wants. And that`s what we are looking forward to. We just want them to go out there and do their magic,” Gill said after the seven-wicket win in the second Test match against the West Indies.
Under his leadership, Team India registered a clean sweep in the two-match Test series against the visitors. After the West Indies series, Gill expressed excitement to lead the Indian pack against Australia.
Expressing excitement for the ODI series, he said that the “Men in Blue” have been playing their best cricket in the 50-over format.
“We`ve been playing some of the best ODI cricket in the past two or three years, and nothing changes for us. It`s more or less the same team that we`re playing. So, very excited to go out there and play in Australia,” said the 26-year-old cricketer.
Earlier, India`s unbeaten run in Champions Trophy 2025 concluded on a fairytale note with Sharma being named the “Player of the Match” for his rollicking 76 (83), which was the last appearance of the batting wizards. Sharma and Kohli were expected to return to the Test fold, but both decided to bid adieu to the format more than a month before the England tour, which concluded in September.
The three-match ODI series between India and Australia will kick off on Sunday, with the first game scheduled to be played at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The second match will be played on October 23 at the Adelaide Oval, followed by the third game on October 25 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
