In the second Test match against the West Indies, Team India secured a victory by seven wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
The win also helped the Shubman Gill-led side to register a clean sweep in the two-match Test series. This was the first Test series win under the captaincy of Gill. Earlier, in the five-match Test series against England, the Indian team managed to draw the series 2-2.
Coming to the second Test match against the Caribbean, the hosts were put in a position to chase a target of 121 runs.
Opening the innings for India, Yashasvi Jaiswal failed to replicate his performance from the previous innings. In the second essay, he returned to the pavilion on the score of eight runs in seven balls. His knock also included two boundaries.
Sai Sudharsan and skipper Gill scored 39 and 13 runs, respectively. Facing 76 balls, Sai smashed five boundaries, whereas Gill managed to smash a boundary and a maximum in his 15-ball knock.
KL Rahul stayed unbeaten as he scored 58 runs off 108 deliveries, including six boundaries and two maximums. Accompanying him was Dhruv Jurel, who scored an unbeaten six runs in six balls, with the help of a boundary.
The visitor`s skipper, Roston Chase, bagged two wickets by conceding 36 runs in nine overs. However, his efforts went in vain as Rahul helped his side cruise to victory. Along with Chase, Jomel Warrican also registered a scalp for 39 runs in 15.2 overs.
Earlier, in the second innings of the West Indies, John Campbell and Shai Hope delivered blistering centuries. Later, Chase also garnered 40 runs, and Justin Greave played an unbeaten knock of 50 runs.
Despite delivering crucial performances, the side suffered a loss in the clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Team India`s premier all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was named the “Player of the Series” for his stunning contributions to the side. Wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav received the “Player of the Match” award in New Delhi. He registered a five-wicket haul in the first innings, and then went on to scalp three wickets in the second essay of the match.
