The Mumbai Cricket Association’s Apex Council has decided to honor former India and Mumbai captain Dilip Vengsarkar by naming an inter-collegiate tournament after him. This announcement is sure to resonate with Vengsarkar, who has long advocated for the revival of inter-college cricket in Mumbai. With a background as a player for Podar College in the 1970s, he understands firsthand the vital role this level of competition plays in nurturing cricketing talent in the city. Being selected for the top inter-college team that represented Mumbai University was a significant milestone in a cricketer’s journey. “By naming this tournament after Dilip Vengsarkar, we are embodying the standards of excellence and leadership that we hope young cricketers will strive for,” stated MCA president Ajinkya Naik. Additionally, the MCA has announced central contracts for players and plans for a T20 talent scouting tournament. “These central contracts will provide players with stability and confidence, while the T20 scouting initiative will help Mumbai continue its legacy of identifying and developing future cricketing stars,” Naik added.
