As the T20 World Cup 2026 approaches, Roston Chase, the spinner for Pretoria Capitals, is eager to regain his form in time for the tournament. In a recent SA20 match against the Durban Super Giants, Chase took one wicket while conceding 34 runs in 3.4 overs. Although the West Indies have yet to announce their squad for the global event, Chase is determined to deliver standout performances for his team.
“I’m excited to be playing competitive cricket leading up to the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. I hope to find my rhythm and carry that momentum into the tournament to perform well for the West Indies,” he shared.
Reflecting on his experience in the SA20, Chase expressed his love for South Africa and described the tournament as thrilling and fast-paced. “In the past, I’ve often been unavailable. Last year, I was picked for the ILT20, which overlapped with this league, so I didn’t have the opportunity to participate. However, this time I jumped at the chance to play. I really enjoy watching this tournament, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it now,” said the 33-year-old cricketer.
In the recent SA20 match against Durban’s Super Giants, the Pretoria Capitals scored 201/4 in their 20 overs, with opener Shai Hope leading the charge with an impressive 118 runs off 69 balls, including nine fours and nine sixes. For the Super Giants, Kwena Maphaka, David Wiese, and Gerald Coetzee each took a wicket.
In reply, Jos Buttler’s valiant 97 runs went unrewarded as the Super Giants were bowled out for 186 runs in 19.4 overs, losing by 15 runs. Lungi Ngidi and Gideon Peters each claimed three wickets for the Capitals.
The T20 World Cup 2026 is set to kick off on February 7, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The West Indies find themselves in Group C alongside Bangladesh, England, Italy, and Nepal. Their opening match is against Bangladesh on February 7 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, followed by their final group stage match against Italy on February 19 at the same venue.
