Ahead of the first Test match against South Africa at the Eden Gardens, Team India`s Shubman Gill said that he cherishes a lot of memories at the venue.

Speaking about playing his first Test match in Kolkata, the Indian skipper said, “I cherish a lot of memories here. My IPL career started here. This is one ground where I definitely feel in the PCA Stadium in Punjab”.

He also said that it is a huge honour for him to lead Team India at the iconic Eden Gardens.

“We`re playing a match here after six years. The last match we played was the pink ball Test match. I was not a part of that Test match, but I was watching it from outside, I was part of the squad. It is my first Test match here in Eden Gardens, and it is a very big honour for me to lead my country,” he added.

So far, Gill has accumulated 2839 runs in 39 Test matches. He has also registered 10 centuries and eight half-centuries under his name. The right-hander also has a top score of 269 runs in the format and will be expected to deliver big knocks against the Proteas.

Additionally, the Test series will also mark the return of Rishabh Pant to international cricket. The left-hander will be donning the Indian whites after the conclusion of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

The first Test match between India and South Africa is scheduled to be played from November 14.
