Maharashtra’s women’s cricket team scripted history on Friday by clinching their maiden Senior Women’s T20 Trophy 2025 title, defeating Madhya Pradesh by 12 runs in a thrilling final at the Lalbhai Contractor Stadium, Surat.

The tournament, one of India’s premier domestic competitions organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), saw Maharashtra deliver a dominant all-round performance to lift the coveted title for the first time.

Batting first in a rain-curtailed 14-over match, Maharashtra scored 102 for 9, led by Tejal Hasabnis (30 off 26) and Gautami Naik (22 off 17). Key contributions from skipper Anuja Patil (12) and Shweta Mane (21) ensured a fighting total despite the regular fall of wickets.

In reply, Madhya Pradesh could only manage 90 for 9, falling short by 12 runs. Maharashtra’s bowlers were clinical, with Ishita Khale (3/17) and Bhakti Mirajkar (3/19) spearheading the attack, supported by tight fielding and disciplined bowling.

The victory marked a significant milestone for women’s cricket in Maharashtra, reflecting the team’s perseverance, consistency, and tactical depth throughout the season.

MCA announces Rs 40 Lakh cash reward

Following the historic win, Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) President Rohit Pawar announced a Rs 40 lakh cash prize for the champion team. This is in addition to the Rs 40 lakh prize awarded by the BCCI, taking the total prize money for Team Maharashtra to Rs 80 lakh.

Rohit lauded the players for their commitment and skill, saying the victory would inspire a new generation of women cricketers across the state.
