Currently in Colombo as the Deputy Head Coach for Oman at the T20 World Cup, former Mumbai wicketkeeper-batter Sulakshan Kulkarni is acutely aware of the struggles facing Mumbai’s domestic cricket this season. He expressed his concerns, stating, “For the past four or five seasons, we’ve relied on the same bowlers in the Ranji Trophy. Why aren’t we integrating talent from the U-19 or U-23 levels? We conducted a fast bowling talent hunt, yet those prospects seem to be absent from the scene.” Kulkarni, who led Mumbai to its 40th Ranji title during the 2012-13 season, shared these insights with mid-day on Tuesday. Addressing the issue of dropped catches, he noted, “A few years back, I had heard that Mumbai dropped around 40 catches in a single season. This year, poor fielding and dropped catches remain critical issues. What’s causing this decline?”
