Bhushan Kumar of T-Series is reveling in the success of his latest film, Border 2, which has already grossed an impressive Rs 167 crore globally within its opening three days. This film represents the debut collaboration between Kumar and director Anurag Singh. Given the remarkable reception of Border 2, the duo is eager to embark on additional projects together, including a third installment in the Border franchise.
In an exclusive conversation with Hindustan Times, Anurag Singh and Bhushan Kumar disclosed that their initial partnership was slated for a different film before they shifted focus to Border 2. Now that it has launched successfully, they plan to revisit their original project. Bhushan mentioned, “The next film will follow the themes we discussed prior to Border 2. After that, we’ll circle back to Border.”
Confirming the development of Border 3, he stated, “We’re collaborating with his company and mine. He’ll direct, and it will be a fresh take. Border 3 is definitely in the pipeline.” He emphasized, “Given the immense legacy of this franchise, it’s vital to continue. Anurag has put in tremendous effort to revive it. Bringing something back after nearly 30 years and receiving such love means we must keep it going.”
About Border 2, it serves as a spiritual sequel to JP Dutta’s acclaimed 1997 film Border, directed by Anurag Singh. The cast includes Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, alongside Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh, and Medha Rana in significant roles. Border 2 hit theaters on January 23, 206, coinciding with the Republic Day weekend, and has performed exceptionally well at the box office. It opened with Rs 32.1 crore domestically and amassed a staggering Rs 57.2 crore on Sunday, bringing its total to Rs 129 crore in its first weekend.
