Border 2 is currently experiencing a remarkable performance at the box office. As a spiritual successor to the 1997 classic, the film stars Sunny Deol as Lt Col Fateh Singh Kaler, alongside Akshaye Khanna, Suniel Shetty, and Sudesh Berry, who all had impactful roles in the original. The filmmakers have brought back these beloved characters for cameo appearances, tapping into the nostalgia of fans.
Bhushan Kumar, head of T-Series, has addressed the buzz surrounding Akshaye Khanna’s cameo in Border 2, especially following the success of his recent film, Dhurandhar. Online chatter suggested that Akshaye was added to the film to capitalize on his newfound popularity. Kumar refuted these claims, insisting that the decision was made well before Dhurandhar’s release. “You can’t make a film like that. It was already scripted. In fact, we shot his portion after Dhurandhar premiered. The excitement around the film and Akshaye existed, but we never intended to exploit it. His inclusion was part of the original script,” he stated.
Kumar also clarified that Suniel Shetty’s role was similarly planned, urging audiences to stay for the end credits, where the emotional cameos unfold.
Director Anurag Singh confirmed the timeline, noting that Akshaye filmed his segment on December 10-11, emphasizing that his role was envisioned from the outset as a tribute to the original Border. “Those who remain until the film concludes will discover a special moment,” he said.
Reflecting on Border 2’s impressive box office collection, Kumar expressed optimism, especially given it was a non-holiday release. “The last film to achieve such numbers was Chhaava, released last year. This film’s popularity is growing due to positive word-of-mouth. A successful movie typically sees a 10-15% increase on its second day, but we expect a 30-40% jump on Saturday. I believe this film will enjoy a lengthy run, potentially lasting two months. We were confident in our project, and it’s gratifying to hear that we’ve honored Border, a film created by JP sir,” he added.
