Sunny Deol’s latest film, Border 2, is making waves at the box office, achieving the highest-ever Republic Day earnings for a Hindi movie with a remarkable ₹63.59 crore net on Day 4, according to the filmmakers. Released on January 23, this sequel to the iconic 1997 film Border is helmed by Anurag Singh and produced by T-Series and J P Films. The cast also includes Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty in significant roles.

As per a press release, Border 2’s total domestic net box office collection (NBOC) for the first four days has reached ₹193.48 crore. “With unstoppable momentum, Border 2 achieved a historic Day 4 on Republic Day, setting a new standard for patriotic films at the box office. The film’s impressive ₹63.59 crore NBOC on this day has propelled its cumulative total to ₹193.48 crore within just four days,” the statement noted.

The film kicked off its run with ₹32.10 crore on opening day, followed by ₹40.59 crore on Day 2 and ₹57.20 crore on Day 3. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared on X, “Border 2 is on a roll… The film has exceeded all pre-release expectations by an astonishing margin. The impressive box office performance has effectively silenced any critics on social media.”

He added, “This war drama has enjoyed a sensational extended weekend total from Friday to Monday, largely boosted by the Republic Day holiday. Urban centers saw excellent momentum after Saturday, while mass circuits have been thriving since Friday. Many theaters in the Hindi heartland have reported capacity challenges, with Border 2 achieving one of the most significant weekend totals in recent times. It’s trending as a BLOCKBUSTER, and how it performs from Tuesday to Thursday will indicate the strength and duration of its box office run.”

About Border 2:
While the original 1997 film depicted the Battle of Longewala during the 1971 India-Pakistan war, Border 2 revisits the same historical backdrop. Notably, the film has not been released in six Gulf nations—Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE—reportedly due to its contentious anti-Pakistan narrative, with a response from the filmmakers still pending.

It is the second Indian film recently denied release in Gulf countries after Aditya Dhar’s spy action movie Dhurandhar. Border 2 is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, and features Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh, and Medha Rana in supporting roles.
