Vijay’s much-anticipated film, Jana Nayagan, is navigating a challenging path towards release due to delays in obtaining its censor certificate. However, there may be a silver lining for both the filmmakers and fans, as reports indicate that the film has been forwarded to the revising committee by the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC). A source revealed to India Today that this development occurred on Monday. The film is currently embroiled in a legal dispute in the Madras High Court concerning its censor certification. The source also suggested that the production house may withdraw its court petition once the certificate is granted. KVN Productions, the film’s production company, has yet to officially comment on this update. Earlier, the CBFC informed the court of its decision to send Jana Nayagan for further review following a complaint from an examining committee member, who claimed that his objections were not adequately addressed. The complaint raised concerns about scenes that might offend religious sentiments and misrepresent the armed forces. Jana Nayagan was initially slated for a January 9 release, but the ongoing delays have left its release date uncertain. Reports suggest that the film may face additional postponements due to the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, expected in April-May. Regarding the Jana Nayagan-CBFC controversy, the Madras High Court recently overturned a prior single-judge decision that mandated the censor board to issue a certificate for the film, instead remanding the case for a fresh hearing. This ruling reversed an earlier win for the film’s producers, as the dispute began with delays in the certification process, prompting the filmmakers to seek legal action to expedite the release. The court has also allowed the censor board time to respond, while KVN Productions has been instructed to revise its writ petition.
