Shanaya Kapoor recently opened up about a deeply emotional chapter from her past while promoting her upcoming film, Tu Yaa Main. During an appearance on the podcast Relationshit Advice, she recounted the shocking moment she discovered her then-boyfriend’s infidelity while on vacation.
At the time, Shanaya believed she was in a loving and committed relationship. The couple was enjoying their getaway when an unexpected twist altered her perception entirely. After her phone died, she borrowed her boyfriend’s device to arrange a cab, only to stumble upon a notification from another woman. What began as mere curiosity swiftly spiraled into disbelief as she explored the chat.
To her horror, Shanaya uncovered not just one but five separate conversations her boyfriend was having with different women, all while behaving as if he were still single. The revelation left her feeling utterly betrayed and emotionally devastated. In a moment of shock, she took screenshots of the exchanges and shared them with her close friend, actor Ananya Panday, who urged her to leave and come stay with her.
Yet, being in a foreign country complicated matters. Shanaya chose to complete the trip, masking her heartache for three more days as she participated in outings and meals. Sensing her distress, her boyfriend attempted to mend things by gifting her an extravagant pair of earrings, which she humorously dubbed “guilty earrings.” She keeps them as a reminder of the ordeal she endured.
When she confronted him, he dismissed the messages as innocent chatting and claimed nothing physical occurred. Shanaya, however, saw it as emotional betrayal and a profound violation of trust. This experience fundamentally transformed her view on relationships, empowering her to emerge stronger and more self-aware as she moved forward in life, both personally and professionally.
