Actor Suniel Shetty has been actively promoting his son Ahan Shetty’s latest film, Border 2, since the beginning of the year. Released in theaters on January 23, the movie had a robust opening weekend. Yet, despite the buzz, Shetty has yet to view the film, having pledged to only watch it once it surpasses the Rs 500 crore milestone at the box office.
As a month has passed, Shetty remains optimistic that Border 2 will reach this impressive benchmark, finally allowing him to enjoy it on the big screen. In a recent interview with ABP News, he shared, “I had decided long before the film’s release that, being a patriotic film, it should definitely cross Rs 500 crore. I made up my mind to watch it only after that.”
Currently, Border 2 has amassed Rs 440 crore at the box office. Although the number of screens has dwindled, the film is still showing in theaters. February saw many new releases struggle at the box office, and the first half of March hasn’t introduced any major films. Suniel expressed his faith, stating, “For a father’s love, God will ensure we reach the Rs 500 crore mark.” He added earnestly, “It was just a thought, an emotion, and I’ve stuck to it. Just so you know, I haven’t seen a single frame of the film yet.”
In the same interview, Shetty also disclosed that he doesn’t watch the cricket matches of his son-in-law, KL Rahul. Drawing a comparison to his decision about Border 2, he remarked, “I don’t watch matches at all. Even though I’m a huge cricket fan, I just don’t do it. I don’t even listen to commentary, but I understand what’s happening from my wife’s reactions in the next room. I catch the highlights later when the stress has settled. He’s my child, and I just want him to succeed,” he explained.
