Sunny Deol kicked off the year with a bang, as his latest film Border 2 grossed over Rs 400 crore at the box office, reaffirming his star power. Notably, this success came just a month after the blockbuster Dhurandhar, featuring Ranveer Singh, which included a dialogue that paid homage to Deol’s classic films.
In Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, the line, “Ghayal hoon, isiliye Ghatak hoon,” resonated with audiences and quickly became a sensation. Both Ghayal and Ghatak are among Deol’s most beloved films. During a recent interview with ANI, Sunny was asked about the inclusion of his film titles in Dhurandhar and whether he or the filmmakers received any royalties.
With a smile, Sunny expressed his appreciation for the gesture, stating, “Nahi, humare jo director hai, he is a great fan. Unhone meri picture dekhi hai aur unhone Ghayal, Ghatak, yeh sab filmein dekhi hai. So I think just out of respect, maybe he used the dialogue. I mean, they have used the titles, which is very sweet.”
Released on December 5, Dhurandhar also features Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, Saumya Tandon, and Gaurav Gera in pivotal roles. The film, which is the first part of a two-part series, showcases a gripping anti-terror covert operation where an undercover agent delves into Karachi’s criminal and political realms.
Dhurandhar has shattered numerous box office records, surpassing Rs 850 crore and becoming the highest-grossing Hindi film, overtaking Pushpa 2, despite its OTT release.
Looking ahead, the sequel, titled Dhurandhar: The Revenge, is set to hit theaters on March 19, continuing the story after Ranveer Singh’s character, Hamza Mazhari, kills Akshaye Khanna’s Rahman Dakait. This release is anticipated to compete with Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups, featuring Yash.
On the work front, Sunny Deol is collaborating with Aamir Khan and Preity Zinta for Lahore 1947, aimed for release on Independence Day 2026. He also has a Netflix project titled Ikka and another film called Gabru in the pipeline. Additionally, he will portray Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana Part 1, alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, and Sai Pallavi, slated for a Diwali release this year.
