Filmmaker Vipul Amrutlal Shah has voiced serious concerns, alleging that theatre owners in Chennai and Kerala are being coerced into withdrawing their screenings of ‘The Kerala Story 2.’ This follows the film’s release on Friday, after a court lifted a previous stay on its screening.

In an exclusive interview with IANS, Shah urged the Chief Ministers of both states to ensure that the court’s ruling is enforced effectively. He stated, “I urge both Chief Ministers to fully uphold the court’s decision and take decisive action against those threatening to disrupt the film. What is the purpose of the law if it is selectively enforced?”

He emphasized that during the period when a stay was in effect, his team refrained from conducting any unauthorized screenings, showing utmost respect for the judiciary.

The Kerala High Court’s decision to lift the interim stay allowed the film’s theatrical run to proceed, reversing an earlier order from a single-judge bench.

When discussing feedback from theatre owners, Shah expressed satisfaction, stating, “The film has received an overwhelming response in theatres. Our distributors and theatre owners are thrilled with the turnout.”

He further mentioned that due to the positive audience reaction, there are plans to expand the number of shows and screens for the film. “They’ve indicated a desire to increase both the number of screens and showtimes, as they believe the audience enthusiasm will translate into strong box office performance,” he added.
