Amid much buzz and fanfare, Akon concluded his three-day-long tour in India with the Mumbai show on November 16. Social media has been buzzing with clips and videos from his concerts in Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai. In one such video, going viral online, the singer is seen interacting with the crowd.
Akon`s India comment
In the video, Akon asked the fans, “Where are you from? You know where I am from? I am from India.” This led to a loud cheer from the audience. The Senegalese-American singer who has roots in Africa, further added, “I can`t believe you guys didn`t know the answer. Where are you from? You are from Africa. Let me give you a small history lesson. If history says correctly, all mankind started from Africa. Then we had a few natural occasions, the world changed, they played a brutal part and split it up into different continents and regions, leaving the biggest continent to be Africa and Asia.” (sic)
The singer then concludes, “Every mankind was divided and spread out at that time, and that`s why if you check your DNA today, everyone will have their DNA that leads them all the way back to Africa. That`s how I know that I`m in a room right now with family. That`s why when people ask me where am I from, and they`re Indian, I say I`m Indian.”
Fans pull Akon`s trousers at Bengaluru concert
In another video circulating from the same concert, Akon is performing his hit track Sexy B*tch near the VIP section. As he is seen interacting with fans along the barricades, several people in the front row grabbed at his trousers, forcing him to repeatedly pull them back up mid-performance.
Notably, the singer maintained his composure and continued the song, despite being uncomfortable. Many attendees, and those who later watched the clip online condemned the act. The incident quickly became the talk of the town, overshadowing the performance itself.
Many users on social media noted that it was unacceptable and disrespectful. One user wrote, “This is sad, they were harassing him live on stage. He is an international artist trying to perform for them and they are just harassing him.”
