Despite hailing from a film family, Arjun Kapoor has carved his own niche in Bollywood with prolific performances. The actor has been vocal about the emotional times in his life. At his recent appearance at the FICCI Frames event, he opened up about his struggles with obesity and how he coped with the grief of losing his mother before his debut Ishaqzaade.

Arjun Kapoor on low moments

According to a report by Free Press Journal, he reflected on his lowest moments during the pandemic and said, “COVID gave me a moment of realisation. I started therapy because I realized I hadn’t taken care of myself for ten years. You think a sorted person doesn’t need help. But even the strongest ones are sometimes messed up in their heads.”

The actor revealed how he coped with grief after losing his mother, Mona Shourie Kapoor, right before his debut film Ishaqzaade’s release. “My mother passed away in March 2012, and my film released 45 days later. I was mourning and celebrating at the same time. I became a star overnight, but I was only running away from my pain,” he shared.

Arjun Kapoor on struggles with obesity

Talking about his struggles with obesity, Arjun said, “Losing 50 kilos took me four years. It was as much a mental battle as a physical one. I was lucky to have my mother’s support, but many people don’t have that emotional or financial backing. When you lose your backbone at 25, what can the world do to you? I’ve faced enough to know I can take on anything.”

During the event, Arjun Kapoor also urged youngsters to prioritize their mental health and seek therapy without hesitation. “There’s nothing wrong with being vulnerable. The strongest people are those who can acknowledge their emotions. When you talk openly, you realize how smart and sensible you are. You just need an outlet — and therapy gives you that.”

Arjun Kapoor’s movies

Arjun gained widespread recognition for his performance as the main antagonist, Danger Lanka, in Singham Again. He last starred in Mere Husband Ki Biwi, directed by Mudassar Aziz. The film was released in February this year and also featured Rakul Preet Singh, Bhumi Pednekar, and comedian Harsh Gujral in the lead roles. Arjun will next be seen in No Entry 2; however, the project is on the backburner as Diljit Dosanjh and Varun Dhawan exited.
