Huma Qureshi`s Single Salma has quietly hit theatres today. It is the only new Hindi release among a host of re-releases (including seven Shah Rukh Khan films and Baahubali: The Epic). Despite being a new release, the film — which also stars Shreyas Talpade and Sunny Singh — is struggling to get screens. Directed by Nachiket Samant, the film has been co-produced by actor Saqib Saleem, who is also Huma`s brother. As the film hit theatres, Saqib penned a heartfelt note urging people to watch the beautiful film in cinemas.
Saqib pens heartfelt note
On Friday, Saqib announced the release of Single Salma in an emotional post. “This one`s personal. It`s a beautiful film about self-love, about choosing yourself, being okay with who you are, and finding peace in your own company. Being single doesn`t mean being alone, it means being whole,” he wrote.
Saqib further highlighted the labour of love that went into making the film. “We made this film with a beautiful team and a lot of heart. Everyone believed in it, and that love shows in every frame.”
The actor-producer also expressed disappointment over the film not getting its due in theatres in terms of screens and time slots. “I know the system isn`t always fair to beautiful films like this — not enough shows, not the best slots, and ticket prices that feel like EMI plans.”
He urged all to watch the film in theatres. “But if you find Single Salma playing near you, go watch it. Take your friends parents, maybe even your ex if you ve reached that level of healing.”
He further wrote, “It`s honest, warm, funny, and maybe a little bit you. And if it`s not playing in your city tag your nearest cinema chain and tell them you want to watch Single Salma. Let`s make them feel the love too. Go watch it. Show it some love because sometimes the most beautiful films remind you to fall in love with yourself again.”
Plot of Single Salma
The film introduces audiences to a 33-year-old Salma Rizvi (Huma Qureshi) who is finally wanting to settle down into an arranged marriage setup with Sikandar (Shreyas Talpade), but life throws her into an unexpected love in London with Meet (Sunny Singh). What follows is a laugh out clash of two cities, two cultures, two baraatis culminating in one unforgettable wedding night. But the question still remains who will change the relationship status of Salma?
Saqib Saleem on producing a film
Earlier, he had shared his first real experience producing a film: “This one will always be special. It came before Saleem Siblings was even born, back when I was just figuring things out on the ground. That’s where I learnt how tough, messy, and magical it is to build a film — my first real taste of producing, with all its chaos, responsibility, and joy. And now, to watch Single Salma take its first step out feels almost like sending a bride off with her full baraat — ek Salma, do balma, aur dher saare baraati, all set to reach your nearest theatre.”
