Maddock Films gave fans Thamma for Diwali. The horror-comedy thriller, which stars Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, debuted in theatres on October 21 to high expectations. Let`s see how it`s doing on its first day in theatres.

Thamma`s day one opens at Rs 25 crores

According to the reports, Thamma earned roughly Rs 25.11 crore on its opening day, the highest first-day collection in Ayushmann Khurrana`s career. With no major releases scheduled for the remainder of the week, the film is likely to sustain consistent footfall. Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa`s Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, the only other film released with it, did not fare well at the box office.

Despite a solid start, Thamma`s opening day falls short of the other Maddock Horror Comedy Universe flicks. Last year`s Stree 2 opened with Rs 35 crore, while Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 earned Rs 32 crore over the previous Diwali, despite stiff competition from major movies. Nonetheless, Thamma`s debut is impressive, especially given the current context.

Thamma is the fifth instalment in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, which also contains popular films such as Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya. The film delves into vampire mythology and follows Ayushmann`s character, who unexpectedly transforms into a vampire and finds himself in a convoluted romantic relationship with Rashmika Mandanna. Their relationship confronts problems as they deal with the odd circumstances of his transition.

All about Thamma

Thamma, produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik, has been dubbed a “bloody love story” that blends horror and family-friendly humour. In discussing his role, Ayushmann stated that his character is unlike any prior Maddock horror-comedy protagonist. He stated that the characters are “completely different” from those in Stree, Bhediya, and Munjya, and that the film is intended to be entertaining for both adults and children while carrying on the franchise`s tradition.

While critical reactions have been varied, crowds have responded enthusiastically, drawn in particular by the festive theme and celebrity cast. Thamma`s success demonstrates the growing appeal of the horror-comedy genre in Bollywood, particularly when combined with a well-known franchise and outstanding performances.

As the picture continues to play in theatres, industry observers will be watching closely to see if it can maintain momentum and reach the heights of its franchise predecessors. Along with Thamma, the creators announced their next project, Shakti Shalini, in which Aneet Padda from Saiyaara will play the protagonist.
