Vivek Oberoi will soon be seen on the big screen in the upcoming film Mastiii 4. The actor has been associated with the franchise from the beginning, and the film marks his onscreen reunion with Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani. Ahead of the film’s release, Vivek discussed the fickle nature of fame and how people might not remember even Shah Rukh Khan in another 25 years.
Vivek Oberoi on fame
In a conversation with Pinkvilla, Vivek said, “Which film, starring whom from the 1960s, do you ask anyone about today—nobody cares. You will inevitably be relegated to history. In 2050, people might say, ‘Kaun Shah Rukh Khan?’ (Who is Shah Rukh Khan?)”
Vivek further said that the youth today may not even know who Raj Kapoor is. “Just as people today might ask, ‘Who is Raj Kapoor?’ You and I may call him the god of cinema, but if you ask any youngster who is a fan of Ranbir Kapoor, they might not even know who Raj Kapoor was. So perhaps history eventually relegates us all to nothingness,” he added.
When Shah Rukh Khan said he will be a star for 100 years
Shah Rukh Khan is an icon who has been thriving in the film industry for over three decades. In September this year, Shah Rukh received the National Award for Best Actor, marking his first win in this prestigious category, for his performance in Atlee’s Jawan. In 2023, he made his comeback with Pathaan after four years and broke box-office records with the film. Fans are now eagerly looking forward to his next release, King.
At a recent event, Farah Khan asked SRK about an old statement regarding his “never-dying stardom.” She said, “There’s an old clip circulating from an interview where someone tells him his stardom will end one day, and he replies, ‘I am going to be a star forever, for the next hundred years.’ Where does this confidence come from?”
Shah Rukh responded, “Actually, I say everything with innocence, like small kids do. I know I am 60 years old now, but I really feel that if you wish like a child and throw it into the universe… how it was shown in your movie…” he said, referring to his and Farah’s film Om Shanti Om (2007).
He continued, “If somebody asks, ‘How long will you live?’ just reply, ‘I will live for 200–250 years.’ I believe in it, and if I believe in it with love, without any selfishness, I think everybody makes it happen. This is the thing.”
