Ahead of the second Test match against Team India, South Africa has added Lungi Ngidi to their squad, according to ESPNCricinfo.

His inclusion in the squad indicates that Kagiso Rabada may miss out on the match. Rabada did not feature in the series opener due to rib injury.

The other pacers in the squad are Marco Jansen, Corbin Bosch, and Wiaan Mulder.

So far, Ngidi has played 20 Test matches. Since January 2024, he has played just three matches. His most recent red-ball outing came in the World Test Championship final against Australia in June. He has played just one Test in India previously, going wicketless in Ranchi back in 2019.

Earlier, in the contest, the Proteas delivered a stunning show to register an iconic victory over Team India. The victory also marked South Africa`s first win on Indian soil since 2010.

Ahead of the second Test match, the pitch conditions in Guwahati remain a mystery, as the venue has never been used for a Test match.

Additionally, Team India`s skipper Shubman Gill will travel to Guwahati despite sustaining a neck injury, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced.

On Day 2 of the first Test match against South Africa, Gill sustained an injury in his neck, which forced him to walk off the field. Following the injury, he was later hospitalised, and the hosts lost the match by 30 runs.

The second Test match between Team India and South Africa is scheduled to be played from November 22 at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Guwahati. Currently, the Proteas are leading the two-match Test series by 1-0 and will aim to register a clean sweep. On the other hand, the hosts will play for pride and level the series at 1-1.

With Gill unlikely to participate in the match, all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been taken out of the ongoing India A series against South Africa A in Rajkot.
