In the ODI Women`s World Cup 2025 final match against South Africa, Team India emerged victorious by 52 runs at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.

Following the historic triumph, India`s Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his best wishes to the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Team India by saying that the win will inspire millions of youngsters.

Speaking at the Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave (ESTIC) 2025, Modi said, “This event is related to science. But first, I will talk about India`s spectacular victory in cricket. All of India is overjoyed with the success of its cricket team. This is India`s first Women`s World Cup. I congratulate our women`s cricket team. We are proud of you. Your success will inspire millions of young people across the country.”

Later, the 75-year-old also shared a post on his official social media handle, which read, “A spectacular win by the Indian team in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Finals. Their performance in the final was marked by great skill and confidence. The team showed exceptional teamwork and tenacity throughout the tournament. Congratulations to our players. This historic win will motivate future champions to take up sports #WomensWorldCup2025”.

India`s President Droupadi Murmu also heaped praise on the “Women in Blue” by saying they have scripted history and the victory will take women`s cricket to a higher level.

“My heartiest congratulations to each and every member of the Indian women`s cricket team on winning the ICC Women`s Cricket World Cup 2025! They have created history by winning it for the first time. They have been playing well, and today they got the result befitting their talent and performance. This watershed moment will take women`s cricket to even higher performances. I admire the way the girls have done India proud,” read the President`s post.

Earlier, in an attempt to chase the target of 299 runs, the Proteas were bowled out for 246 runs in 45.3 overs. Skipper Laura Wolvaardt departed after scoring 101 runs off 98 deliveries, with the help of 11 boundaries and a maximum. But her knock was not enough to lay their hands on the elusive showpiece.

Deepti Sharma was the most successful bowler for the hosts. Bowling 9.3 overs, she bagged five wickets for 39 runs. Shafali Verma, too, claimed two wickets by conceding 36 runs in seven overs. Nallapureddy Charani also picked up one wicket for 48 runs in nine overs.

With this, the Indian women`s cricket team managed to clinch their first-ever ODI Women`s World Cup title.
