Ahead of the much-anticipated Ashes series against arch-rivals Australia, England announced its squad for the contest on Tuesday.

Ben Stokes has been appointed as the skipper of the “Three Lions” for the series. The right-hander has still not fully recovered from the shoulder injury that he sustained during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Following the injury, he was ruled out of the fifth Test match against Team India.

The five-match Ashes series between England and Australia will kick off on November 21. The series is also a part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle.

England`s Test squad also features players such as spinner Shoaib Bashir and star pacer Mark Wood. The side will lock horns against New Zealand for the white-ball series.

Ahead of the Test series, fans would expect to witness the batting masterclass from in-form England batsman Joe Root. The right-hander will also be eyeing to close the gap between the Test record of legendary Team India batsman Sachin Tendulkar.

On the other hand, it will be interesting to see if Marnus Labuschagne manages to make the cut in the Australian Test team for the Ashes.

The “Three Lions” will participate in the three-match T20I series against the “Black Caps” from October 18. Later, the side will engage in the ODI series, scheduled to kick off on October 26.

Harry Brook has been assigned the leadership duties for the white-ball series against the “Black Caps”.
