The fantasy genre has transitioned from the periphery to the forefront of Indian cinema. As audiences increasingly crave immersive experiences, this genre delivers a captivating blend of grandeur, emotion, and stunning visuals that cross linguistic divides. Drawing from mythological roots while fueled by contemporary creativity, fantasy is emerging as a pivotal genre for Indian filmmakers. Filmmaker and producer Suraj Singh, whose production house Blive is behind the fantasy film Rahu Ketu, shares insights on his commitment to crafting ambitious narratives within this realm.

Suraj Singh asserts that the current landscape is ripe for fantasy-driven cinema. His upcoming comedy, Rahu Ketu, features Pulkit Samrat and Varun Sharma in leading roles, weaving a tale inspired by Hindu folklore and mythology. The duo portrays modern interpretations of the celestial entities Rahu and Ketu.

He notes that Indian viewers are increasingly open to exploring imaginative realms, especially those rooted in familiar cultural narratives. Anticipation is building for films like Ramayana and Naagzilla, set to release this year, underscoring the appetite for grand storytelling. Kicking off the year with Rahu Ketu has set high expectations for the future of Indian fantasy.

Elaborating on the genre’s current resonance, Suraj Singh states, “Fantasy and mythology have always held a special place in Indian culture, but the scale has evolved. Audiences are hungry for films like Ramayana and Naagzilla because they seek a blend of spectacle and emotional depth. Launching the year with Rahu Ketu raises hopes for the heights Indian fantasy can achieve. With advancements in VFX and creativity, we can finally depict our stories as we’ve always imagined.
