Renowned filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, known for iconic Bollywood hits like Jab We Met, Rockstar, Tamasha, and Chamkila, shares intriguing insights about casting in his forthcoming film, Main Vaapas Aaunga, which stars Naseeruddin Shah, Diljit Dosanjh, Vedang Raina, and Sharvari Wagh. In a conversation on The Right Angle with Sonal Kalra, Season 3, produced by Gautam Thakker Films, Ali elaborates on the casting process. He notes, “I reached out to Naseer for this finely tuned role of a 95-year-old Sikh man experiencing profound life events. It’s a role I don’t recall him taking on before, and I aimed for it to feel fresh and charming—thankfully, he agreed. For the younger character, Vedang had both the look and charm needed to evolve into Naseer’s character at 95, so I sought someone who could embody him 78 years earlier.” Ali further explains how the ensemble cast came together: “With Sharvari, I envisioned a 1940s-inspired aesthetic—westernized yet pristine, and she perfectly matched that vision. Additionally, while collaborating with Diljit on Chamkila, I had a budding idea for this narrative. As the plot developed, it began to resonate more with Diljit’s essence than I initially anticipated.” Imtiaz Ali’s meticulous casting choices ensure that every role in Main Vaapas Aaunga resonates with authenticity and depth. From Diljit’s signature charisma to the promising Vedang Raina, each actor injects unique energy into the narrative, making for an unforgettable cinematic journey.
