Anupam Kher shares a delightful bond with his stepson, actor Sikandar Kher, a sentiment beautifully captured in a recent video on social media. In the clip, Sikandar jokingly pretends to hit Anupam on the cheek, which is still numb from a dental procedure. Amid their playful banter, Anupam opened up about his close friend Anil Kapoor and his unexpected replacement in the beloved film Mr India.
In a humorous exchange shared on Wednesday, Sikandar teased his father, prompting Anupam to ask, “Kya karne wala hai?” (What are you about to do?). Just before the mock slap, Anupam jokingly warned, “Zyada zor se laga na, ulte haath ka maarunga, naak pe teri, naak tod dunga” (If you hit me too hard, I’ll slap your nose and break it). As Sikandar pretended to hit him, Anupam played along, dramatically holding his face.
Sikandar quipped, “Kya karoge aap?” (What will you do?). When Sikandar pretended to slap him again, Anupam recited a famous line from Karma, where he starred alongside Dilip Kumar. Their playful back-and-forth continued, with Anupam humorously rejecting Sikandar’s advances, saying, “Nahi, nahi, nahi beta” (No, no, no, son). Even as Sikandar persisted, Anupam firmly held his hand, cautioning, “Aisa nahi karte. Mat kar” (You shouldn’t do this. Don’t do it). Eventually, Sikandar gently placed his hand on Anupam’s cheek, revealing his intention to post the video on Instagram. To this, Anupam responded, “You’re not going to post this. It’s a personal thing between us.”
The duo later shifted gears to discuss films, with Anupam reminiscing about how Zoya Akhtar, daughter of lyricist Javed Akhtar, cast him for a cameo in her film, only for it to be cut. He also recalled being replaced in the iconic 1987 film Mr India without prior notice. Initially cast as the notorious villain Mogambo, Anupam shared that midway through, he was replaced by the legendary Amrish Puri. “Javed saab threw me out of Mr India. Not Javed saab—it was Anil Kapoor, my best friend, and Boney Kapoor too. They didn’t tell me until the end,” Kher said, later acknowledging that he couldn’t have portrayed the role “as brilliantly as Amrish Puri.” In his video post, Sikandar tagged Javed Akhtar, Boney Kapoor, Amrish Puri, Anil Kapoor, and Shekhar Kapur, captioning it, “For Javed Akhtar (uncle), Boney Kapoor, Amrish Puri (legend), Anil Kapoor, Shekhar Kapur (uncle)… enjoy #KherSaab after his tooth removal.”
