Renowned Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap has been mentioned in the controversial Epstein Files. His name emerged from a recently unveiled collection of documents associated with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. On January 30, the U.S. Department of Justice disclosed over three million documents, which include emails and correspondence involving numerous high-profile individuals worldwide.
In the Epstein Files, Kashyap is identified as the ‘Bollywood guy’ in email exchanges with notable figures like Giuseppe Bersani, Gino Yu, and Ornella Corazza. The emails reportedly touch on Epstein’s proposed trips to various locations, including Cuba, and list Kashyap as one of the anticipated attendees at workshops focused on Buddhism, technology, and medicine. One message even refers to him as ‘a famous Bollywood director.’
While Kashyap’s name appears in these documents, it does not imply that he attended any events or engaged in Epstein’s illicit activities. There is currently no evidence indicating that Kashyap and Epstein were ever in the same place at the same time.
In the correspondence, Kashyap is mentioned alongside other esteemed personalities, such as Ben Goertzel, Bruce Damer, and DJ Spooky, who were described as ‘cool people’ invited to gatherings in cities like Shanghai.
Kashyap isn’t the only Indian film personality named in the files; actress Nandita Das is also mentioned, recognized as a speaker at the 2015 Lake District Festival in the UK, organized by Jem Bendell. This festival reportedly included a variety of activities such as music, kayaking, nature walks, yoga, tai chi, dance lessons, and storytelling workshops at Brathay Hall.
On the work front, Kashyap’s latest project was the two-part film ‘Nishaanchi.’ While it didn’t achieve box office success, it garnered critical acclaim and found a broader audience after its release on OTT platforms. The filmmaker, who also acts, is set to portray the antagonist in Adivi Sesh’s upcoming film ‘Dacoit,’ which also stars Mrunal Thakur and Prakash Raj. The movie is scheduled for release in both Telugu and Hindi on April 10.
