The Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) has reached out to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis regarding a recent shooting incident at filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s home. In a letter penned by association president Abhay Sinha, he expressed the prevailing sense of fear and unease gripping the film industry in light of several violent occurrences in the entertainment capital.
Sinha’s letter emphasized, “Rohit Shetty has made significant contributions to Indian cinema and has always supported social causes and national initiatives when needed. It is alarming that such an incident could happen at his residence. This distressing event has understandably heightened anxiety within our film community, raising concerns about creating a culture of fear among artists, producers, and technicians who are vital to our state’s cultural and economic fabric.”
He further requested the Chief Minister’s urgent intervention to ensure a comprehensive and transparent investigation, as well as the implementation of enhanced security measures to protect Shetty and the broader entertainment community. Under your leadership, we trust that decisive actions will be taken to maintain law and order and to prevent similar occurrences in the future,” he added.
The shooting incident at Rohit Shetty’s Juhu bungalow in Mumbai occurred last Sunday. Police investigations revealed that many celebrities are reluctant to approach law enforcement, indicating that the intention behind the shooting was to instill fear within the film industry. A senior police official noted that they have received reports of threatening calls received by several individuals, but many are hesitant to come forward with statements or complaints. Without this information, it becomes challenging for police to take proactive measures. Some warnings have surfaced in social media posts linked to Lonkar.
Despite the situation, Rohit Shetty has stated that he has not received any threatening calls. Multiple police teams have been deployed across the country in pursuit of the shooters.
