About Bandwaale
This captivating series boasts an impressive cast featuring Shalini Pandey, Zahan Kapoor, Swanand Kirkire, Sanjana Dipu, Ashish Vidyarthi, and Anupama Kumar in significant roles.
Set against the backdrop of Ratlam, Bandwaale tells the story of Mariam, a budding poet who begins to share her work anonymously online as she embarks on a quest for independence and self-discovery. The poignant poems, crafted by Kausar Munir, serve as a profound representation of her inner thoughts, articulating emotions she struggles to express verbally. Her journey intertwines with that of her bandmates, Robo and DJ Psycho, who infuse her life with music, humor, and camaraderie. While Mariam channels her feelings through poetry, Robo and DJ Psycho provide the foundation of their trio, supporting her through their shared creativity and belief in possibilities.
At its essence, Bandwaale presents a rich tapestry of music that mirrors the characters’ emotional landscapes. Featuring original compositions by Yashraj Mukhate, this marks his debut in composing music for a long-format series. The soundtrack plays a pivotal role in shaping the narrative’s emotional arc, making music an integral part of the storytelling. With creators Ankur Tewari and Swanand Kirkire being musicians, Bandwaale imbues a musical sensibility that enhances the dramedy’s depth and immersive qualities.
Writers Ankur Tewari and Swanand Kirkire on Bandwaale
“Bandwaale is a narrative born from everyday moments of expression, hesitation, and the courage it takes to be authentic,” said Swanand Kirkire, co-creator and co-writer. “Mariam’s journey illustrates how creativity, friendship, and music can bolster us during uncertain times. Writing this series allowed us to delve into how small choices gradually build confidence and identity. The story is intimate yet resonates universally, and I can’t wait for audiences to connect with Mariam’s experience when the series launches.”
“From the outset, our goal with Bandwaale was to present a grounded tale that feels relatable and genuine,” Ankur Tewari, co-writer, co-creator, and co-director, added. “In collaboration with Swanand Kirkire and our incredible team, we aimed to authentically capture Mariam’s world, her dilemmas, and how her poetry fuels her self-exploration. Thanks to Prime Video’s creative support, we were able to maintain the narrative’s tone, and I’m thrilled for viewers to immerse themselves in this heartfelt series.
