On Tuesday morning, actress Meerra Chopra took to X to share a terrifying ordeal she faced with Uber, labeling it a “massively scary” incident. She criticized the ride-hailing service for neglecting safety protocols and claimed it shirked responsibility during serious matters.
Meerra explained that she had booked a cab for six hours early that morning but was dismayed by the vehicle’s condition and the driver’s demeanor. Eventually, she decided to cancel the ride, although she was reportedly still charged for the full duration.
In her post, she expressed her frustration: “Had a massively scary unfortunate experience with Uber Uber_India. Booked a cab for 6 hrs early morning. The driver came in a dirty, stinking, dusty car. When I asked him why the car was smelling, I realized he was barely able to talk and was almost sleeping while driving. I got out of the cab within 20 minutes and booked another one. And what does Uber do? Instead of cleaning up their own act, they charge me for the entire 6 hours.”
Meerra also addressed the broader issue of public transport safety in the country, stating, “Safety standards in our country with public transport are deeply compromised, and in situations like this, companies like Uber are trying to make money. Disgusting!!”
Following her post, many users shared their own unsettling experiences. When one commenter mentioned poor customer service, Meerra responded, noting that this wasn’t her first negative encounter and that she eventually stopped answering their calls. She suggested that Uber India’s license should be temporarily revoked until they improve their standards.
Uber Support replied with a generic message, asking her to reach out for further details. As of the latest update, there has been no resolution on the matter.
