Actress Sandeepa Dhar has candidly addressed the unrealistic beauty standards prevalent in the entertainment industry and their influence on actresses regarding cosmetic procedures. She emphasized that the pressure to conform isn’t confined to celebrities anymore; many ordinary women are also opting for cosmetic enhancements to boost their self-esteem.
When asked if actresses face heightened scrutiny to maintain a flawless appearance, Sandeepa responded to IANS, saying, “It’s not just the film stars anymore. Many young women, even those outside the limelight, are choosing cosmetic procedures. What was once thought to be a celebrity-only trend has become widespread.”
She highlighted that women today aspire to be the heroines of their own narratives. However, Sandeepa cautioned that this pursuit can lead to dangerous outcomes if it’s rooted in feelings of inadequacy. “We are perpetuating unrealistic beauty ideals that suggest people are not enough as they are. This narrative must shift, and it begins with our close circles—friends and family—encouraging self-acceptance,”
she elaborated. Sandeepa concluded with a poignant reminder: “Comparison is the thief of joy. You can’t find happiness if you’re forever measuring your life against someone else’s.”
On the professional front, Sandeepa recently appeared in the film Do Deewane Seher Mein alongside Siddhant Chaturvedi and Mrunal Thakur. Reflecting on her decision to join the project, she shared, “There were several reasons, but primarily, I was drawn to the unique storyline. It’s not your typical love story; it revolves around two flawed characters learning to embrace their imperfections and accept each other, which felt refreshing.”
She also spoke about her role as Naina, who, while appearing perfect on the outside, grapples with deep emotional struggles. “The film delves into her complex journey, and portraying that contrast—being seemingly flawless while dealing with inner turmoil—was both challenging and exhilarating for me as an actress,” she noted.
