On Friday, acclaimed director Imtiaz Ali unveiled his forthcoming film, Main Vaapas Aaunga, featuring a stellar cast including Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Sharvari, and Vedang Raina. The film’s teaser was released along with the announcement that this romantic tale will hit theaters on June 12, 2026. This launch date positions it to compete directly with Varun Dhawan’s highly anticipated film, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. Notably, the latter had recently adjusted its release date due to a scheduling conflict with another project, Toxic. Now, following this change, Varun’s movie is set to go head-to-head with Imtiaz Ali’s latest venture.

Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, directed by David Dhawan, promises a vibrant exploration of youth, romance, and humor. With an impressive lineup that includes Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde, the film is among the most eagerly awaited releases of the year, showcasing the energetic storytelling style for which Tips Films and David Dhawan are renowned.

Ramesh Taurani, Managing Director of Tips Films, stated, “We want to clarify that Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai was initially set for a June 5 release, a date we announced months ago. However, in light of recent developments and the current industry climate, we deemed it wise to adjust our release.” He continued, “We believe it’s healthier for the industry when filmmakers support each other instead of competing on the same date. In this spirit of collaboration, we’ve moved our film’s release to June 12, allowing us to share it with audiences a week later.”

Promotional efforts, including the release of the film’s soundtrack and trailer, will proceed as planned, creating excitement leading up to the new mid-June premiere.

About Main Vaapas Aaunga

Main Vaapas Aaunga is set to deliver a touching narrative centered around love and longing while reuniting the formidable musical trio of Imtiaz Ali, A. R. Rahman, and Irshad Kamil. The posters circulating on social media evoke a sense of nostalgia, with one image depicting Sharvari cycling through lush fields, chased by Vedang Raina dressed as a Sikh man. Another poster showcases Diljit Dosanjh standing serenely in a field.

The teaser hints at a narrative that spans two timelines, hinting at a love story rooted in the Partition of India. Diljit appears to narrate the tale, connecting the past with the present. Meanwhile, Naseeruddin Shah is seen on a hospital bed, grappling with age-related issues, suggesting that Vedang may be portraying the younger iteration of his character.

In discussing the teaser, Imtiaz Ali remarked, “Can love truly be lost? Can a person’s heart be bereft of home? The migration story is one of the century’s most significant narratives. I feel honored to tell such a story on film. This fictional narrative draws heavily from the experiences of individuals during the Partition. The past remains ever-present. Even decades later, after the pain has been articulated, what lingers is that intimate feeling of love, too personal to share. The nostalgia of our loved ones and our sense of belonging endures within us, shaping our lives.”
