Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt’s new song ‘Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke’ from the Kannada film ‘KD – The Devil’ is under intense scrutiny. The track has drawn widespread criticism online due to its explicit lyrics and provocative dance moves. Following a formal complaint requesting its removal from digital platforms, the song was promptly taken down by its creators. In a recent statement, lyricist Raqeeb Alam, attributed to the song, has spoken out about the controversy.

Raqeeb Alam clarified in an interview with Hindustan Times, “I did not write these lyrics; they were penned by the film’s director, Prem, in Kannada. When I was approached to compose this, I declined, stating that such songs would likely face censorship. They insisted I merely translate the Kannada version into Hindi, which would then be set to the music. Terms like ‘Choosega’ and ‘chaatega’ are directly from the original lyrics.”

He further expressed his discomfort, saying, “Ultimately, the entire song revolves around a bottle of alcohol, but before that, the lyrics are quite distasteful. I refused to be a part of this. Why would I need to write such songs? My better works often go unnoticed. I recently contributed to ‘Chikri Chikri’ for Ram Charan’s upcoming film ‘Peddi.’ I also wrote all the Hindi songs for ‘Pushpa.’ I feel embarrassed because of ‘Sarke Chunar.'”

In light of the backlash, the makers of ‘Sarke Chunar’ have removed the track from YouTube as the controversy escalates. Reports indicate that they are now working on an updated version of the song with revised lyrics, anticipated to be released soon.

Details regarding the new version’s launch remain unclear, but the decision reflects the ongoing issues surrounding the original track. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice regarding the use of inappropriate and suggestive lyrics in ‘Sarke Chunar.’ Additionally, advocate and social activist Vineet Jindal has lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police’s cyber cell, calling for legal action against the song’s creators. He claims the lyrics are obscene and unsuitable for public audiences, particularly given the song’s availability across various digital platforms. The song has faced considerable backlash, with many labeling its lyrics as vulgar and inappropriate.
