Just in early 2026, she showcased her versatility by portraying a Goan gangster in *Happy Patel*, a military wife in *Border 2*, a police officer in *Kohhra 2*, and a formidable villain in *Subedar*. As she kicks off the second quarter of the year, she is set to star in the Amazon Prime Video series *Maa Ka Sum*.
In this new show, Mona takes on the role of Vinita, a single mother to a teenage son who possesses extraordinary mathematical talent. The plot centers around her son as he devises an algorithm to create the ultimate dating app aimed at helping his mother find love.
Given the math-heavy theme of the series, Mona reflected on her own experiences with the subject during her school years. “I was dreadful at math,” she chuckled, revealing that her father only urged her to pass, which she managed to do.
“I would have nightmares about math exams,” she recalled. “Before tests, I couldn’t sleep, often dreaming that I’d go completely blank and leave my paper empty.”
Though math was a challenge in her youth, her career choices have paid off tremendously. The past two years have seen her flourish in a range of roles that have resonated with audiences. When asked about the influx of opportunities, Mona attributed it to her decision to wait for meaningful roles instead of simply seeking visibility. “I never wanted to repeat myself. It was about the patience to wait, and I waited happily,” she explained.
She elaborated, “Taking a break from television was a significant leap. I received offers for major soap operas, but I didn’t want to confine myself to something monotonous. I craved variety.”
“I believe that significant growth comes from patiently believing in your journey and yourself. This is my passion, and now I’m being presented with fantastic opportunities. The wait has truly paid off with projects like *Made in Heaven*, *Laal Singh Chaddha*, *Maa Ka Sum*, *Subedaar*, and *Happy Patel*,” she shared.
Mona also acknowledged the transformative impact of streaming platforms on the roles available to women. “OTT has been revolutionary. It allows us to be messy, honest, raw, and unfiltered—qualities that resonate with real women. Previously, roles were strictly categorized as either good or evil, but now we embody so much more. It’s a refreshing change.”
With the increase in quality roles and audience appreciation, Mona has gained the confidence to turn down projects. “I’ve said no to 90 percent of the offers that didn’t resonate with me. The shift occurred when I distanced myself from predictable tropes. Otherwise, it felt like the same character in the same setting, and I wanted to break free from that.”
