The Madras High Court has granted legal protection to Aditya Dhar and Ranveer Singh’s upcoming film, Dhurandhar 2, prohibiting unauthorized streaming and broadcasting until April 15. This ruling came in response to a plea from Reliance Industries and Jio Studios, highlighting concerns over potential financial losses and copyright infringement due to piracy.

On March 18, just ahead of its theatrical debut, the court acted to prevent illegal broadcasts of the spy thriller. Directives were issued to internet service providers and cable operators to halt any unauthorized streaming or telecasting of the film until the specified date, as reported by Bar and Bench.

Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy presided over the case, where Reliance Industries and Jio Studios expressed worries about copyright violations and the unauthorized spreading of the film on digital and cable platforms. With the film set to release on March 19, the court recognized that without interim relief, the risk of irreparable damage was substantial. Additionally, the court mandated Reliance to indemnify the respondents for any losses incurred due to this injunction. Thus, the court restrained the respondents from unlawfully broadcasting or transmitting the film until April 15, 2026.

Dhurandhar 2 serves as the sequel to the original Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar. The film features a stellar cast, including Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and Sara Arjun. Based on true events, it delves into geopolitical tensions and the covert actions of India’s intelligence agencies, particularly focusing on Operation Lyari, a crackdown by the Pakistani government on gangs and criminal networks in Karachi’s Lyari area.

As the release approaches, Aditya Dhar has urged fans to refrain from leaking any spoilers. The film’s launch faced some challenges, including a technical glitch during paid previews in various states, causing delayed shows and cancellations that frustrated many fans. In response to the disruptions, the filmmakers issued an apology and promised refunds or rescheduled shows for affected viewers.
