Are you ready for a sequel to the beloved film Queen (2014)? We certainly are! Kangana Ranaut’s inspiring story of self-discovery, featuring her character Rani embarking on a solo honeymoon after a breakup, was a massive hit. Exciting news has surfaced that Ranaut and director Vikas Bahl are gearing up to begin production on Queen 2 by the end of April.
The original Queen earned Kangana her second National Film Award for Best Actress, raising expectations for the sequel. So, where will Rani’s journey take her this time? While details remain under wraps, it appears that the sequel will not directly continue from the 2014 storyline but will explore similar themes of independence and self-discovery.
Sources indicate that in Queen 2, Rani will evolve into a city girl, contrasting her small-town roots from the original. She will embody a smart, strong, and quirky persona, with a plot twist that propels her on a new adventure of self-realization and courage. Unlike her previous travels to Paris and Amsterdam, this time, Rani’s journey will unfold across various cities in India.
In a shift from the original cast, Queen 2 will not feature familiar faces, as Bahl has chosen several theatre actors for supporting roles. The project will kick off in a Mumbai studio, where sets representing a North Indian city and Rani’s home will be constructed. After filming in Mumbai, the crew will move to other metropolitan areas, with the entire production expected to wrap up in three months.
The original Queen was produced by Phantom Films and Viacom18 Motion Pictures. With Phantom Films dissolved in 2018, Bahl will independently back the sequel and contribute as the film’s writer.
Following the completion of Queen 2, Kangana Ranaut is set to start filming Tanu Weds Manu 3, directed by Aanand L. Rai.
