Nora Fatehi has spoken out regarding the recent uproar over the song “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke” from the film KD: The Devil, which also features Sanjay Dutt. The track faced immediate backlash and was removed shortly after its release due to accusations of vulgar lyrics. In light of the controversy, several government bodies have urged the CBFC to impose a ban on the song. Nora has clarified her position, stating she did not perform in the track and would never support such content.
In a video message, Nora expressed her grief over a personal loss while addressing the allegations. She explained, “I recorded this song three years ago in Kannada, part of the Sandalwood film industry. I agreed to it because it was a major film with the legendary Sanjay Dutt. Who wouldn’t want to collaborate with him?”
Although she shot the Kannada version without fully grasping the language, she initially found nothing objectionable in the lyrics. However, during the song’s launch, she was taken aback by the AI-generated images of herself and Dutt, as well as the lack of prior approval for the lyrical version. She remarked, “I had significant issues with the event, especially since they didn’t seek my approval for the images used. If you know me, you know I must approve all my photos. They released that lyrical version without my consent.”
Nora emphasized that she distanced herself from the project once she heard the Hindi version, anticipating potential backlash. She noted, “My reputation is on the line. As artists, especially those of us without industry connections, we have little control. Thankfully, I’ve collaborated with many who respect my opinions and creative choices.”
In her social media post, Nora expressed her discontent with anyone assuming she endorses the song. “I appreciate the backlash, as it prompted the filmmakers to take it down. Please refrain from sharing it further, as it only amplifies its reach. I regret the attempts to tarnish my character amidst this situation. My team and I will exercise greater caution in the future. I want to reiterate: I had no involvement in this Hindi version, did not perform for it, and no permission was granted to use my image.”
The controversy surrounding “Sarke Chunar” centers on its alleged vulgarity and suggestive choreography. Following its release, it garnered significant criticism, prompting the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to direct the CBFC to take action upon confirming these claims. The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has called for an official ban, deeming such “vulgar and double-meaning content” unacceptable in Indian cinema. Recently, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) also issued a notice regarding the song’s controversial lyrics.
