In the first Test match, Team India bowled out the West Indies for 162 runs in 44.1 overs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat.

Team India`s star pacer Mohammed Siraj bagged four wickets by conceding 40 runs in 14 overs.

Speaking about his Day 1 performance, Siraj said he was excited to bowl on Ahmedabad’s pitch, noting the good amount of grass. “It’s not often you get a green-top wicket in India,” he added.

“I was very excited to bowl on this green-top wicket, something we don`t get very often in India in Test cricket. The last time we had such a wicket was against New Zealand in Bengaluru so I was very excited to bowl on it,” he said.

During his spell, the pacer also dismissed West Indies` skipper Roston Chase, who scored 24 runs off 43 balls, with the help of four boundaries.

He managed to get the wicket of Chase by bowling an angled delivery. On being able to bowl that ball, Siraj said that he himself was surprised by the way he dismissed the opponent`s skipper.

“With the wobble seam, the ball either comes in or cuts out. But that delivery kept straightening from the shiny side while I had bowled it with wobble seam,” said the pacer.

Meanwhile, lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah claimed three wickets for 43 runs in 14 overs. Spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar registered two and one wickets to their names, respectively.

Nitish Kumar Reddy and Ravindra Jadeja failed to snap wickets on Day 1 of the first Test match. Bowling four overs, Reddy leaked 16 runs, while Jadeja was smashed for 15 runs in three overs.

After the West Indies` innings, Team India concluded Day 1 after posting 121 runs.

India`s KL Rahul and skipper Shubman Gill remain unbeaten at the crease. Rahul and Gill will resume Day 2 on the scores of 53 and 18 runs, respectively.

Facing 114 balls, Rahul smashed six boundaries, whereas the captain managed to score just one boundary in 42 deliveries.

Earlier, opening the innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 36 runs after facing 54 balls. His knock was laced with seven boundaries. On the other hand, coming to bat at number three, Sai Sudharsan departed early on just seven runs in 19 balls.
