Team India ended Day 2 of the first Test match against the West Indies with a score of 448 runs for the loss of five wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat.

Three Indian batsmen completed their centuries on the day. Facing 197 deliveries, KL Rahul scored 100 runs, with the help of 12 boundaries. Dhruv Jurel accumulated 125 runs off 210 balls, which was laced with 15 boundaries and three maximums.

Ravindra Jadeja is still unbeaten on 104 runs, which came in 176 balls. So far, his knock includes six boundaries and five maximums. Along with him, Washington Sundar is the new man in. On day 3, Sundar will resume with his score of nine runs in 13 balls.

These three centurions celebrated their tons in their unique ways. Rahul raised the bat and dedicated his century to his infant daughter. On the other hand, Jurel`s gun salute was for the Indian Army, while Jadeja celebrated his ton in his traditional sword celebration.

The West Indies bowling attack seemed to be dull on Day 2, and there was a lack of energy on the field as well. This helped India to tighten their grip in the match.

India, through 128 overs, scored at 3.50 runs per over, which is reminiscent of Test cricket from a bygone era, but also hit 45 boundaries and eight sixes, five of which those maximums were hit by Jadeja, the same shot in the same region.

Rahul`s century also marked his second century at home since December 2016. Jurel brought up his maiden Test century in only his sixth Test for India, having made his debut last year.

Jurel and Jadeja put on 206 runs for the fifth wicket for an imposing fifth-wicket stand, but they also narrowly missed breaking the record for the highest fifth-wicket partnership for India against West Indies, which belonged to VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar, who put on 214 runs at Kolkata`s Eden Gardens in October 2002.

The partnership ended when Jurel, who smacked 15 fours and three sixes, got an inside edge off Khary Pierre late in the day to be caught behind for the West Indies debutant`s maiden wicket in Tests.
