In the ODI Women`s World Cup 2025 match against South Africa, England came victorious by 10 wickets at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Guwahati.
Having needed to chase a target of 70 runs, England scored 73 runs without losing any wickets in 14.1 overs.
Opening the innings, Tamsin Beaumont scored an unbeaten 21 runs off 35 balls, including three boundaries. Along with her wicketkeeper-batswoman, Amy Jones played an unbeaten knock of 40 runs, which came in 50 balls. During her knock, she smashed six boundaries.
South Africa`s Masabata Klaas conceded 18 runs in four overs. Bowling three overs, Chloe Tryon leaked 17 runs. Marizanne Kapp and Ayabonga Khaka both gave away 13 runs each in their spells of four and 1.1 overs, respectively.
On the other hand, Nonkululeko Mlaba leaked nine runs in her two overs.
Earlier in the match, South Africa`s skipper, Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits opened the innings for South Africa. The opening duo failed to put up a big start for the team. Facing five balls, Wolvaardt managed to score just five runs, which also included a boundary. On the other hand, Brits scored five runs in seven balls, with the help of a boundary.
South Africa`s wicket-keeper, Sinola Jafta, was the highest run-scorer as she made 22 runs in 36 balls, including three boundaries.
England`s Linsey Smith was the most-successful bowler. Bowling seven overs, she gave away just seven runs and bagged three wickets. Nat Sciver-Brunt, Sophie Ecclestone, and Charlie Dean bagged two wickets each.
Sciver-Brunt conceded just five runs in three overs. Bowling six overs, Ecclestone was smashed for 19 runs. Charlie Dean ended her spell of 3.4 overs by conceding 14 runs. Lauren Bell claimed one wicket by conceding 24 runs in four overs.
Linsey Smith was named as the “Player of the Match” for her crucial contributions with the ball in the fourth of the 31 ODI Women`s World Cup 2025 matches.
The victory also helped England to climb to the top spot on the point table with two points and a net run rate (NRR) of +3.773. Following England are Australia, Bangladesh and Team India.
