The West Indies are all set to lock horns against Team India in the second Test match, which is scheduled to be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, from October 10.
Ahead of the second Test match, head coach Daren Sammy did not hold back when he spoke about the decline of Test cricket in his team.
He pointed out the last time the Caribbean won a Test series on Indian soil and said that the problem started way back.
“I mean last time we won a Test series in 1983, my mother had me. I know now I`m under the microscope. I`m in the middle, and we`re open to criticism, to be criticized by everybody. But, the root of the problem didn`t start two years ago. It`s something that started way back,” Sammy expressed.
He then labelled the problem as “cancer” and said that it is deeply rooted in the West Indies` system.
“It`s like a cancer that`s already in the system. If you don`t get cancer, you know what happens. And, again, it`s breast cancer month. So, it`s a good way to put it. That our problems don`t lie on the surface. It`s rooted deep into our system,” said the 41-year-old former cricketer.
In the first Test match, Shubman Gill and his men came victorious by an innings and 140 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India`s premier all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja, was named the “Player of the Match” for his valuable contributions. He played an unbeaten knock of 104 runs off 176 deliveries, and also claimed four wickets by conceding 54 runs in the Ahmedabad showdown.
