India Test opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is keen to give back to the game and wants to begin with where it all started for him. Jaiswal, 23, who has scored 2428 runs in 26 Tests so far, including seven centuries, has decided to sponsor the Best Batsman award for the top-run getter at the upcoming Harris Shield (U-16) and Giles Shield (U-14) inter-school cricket tournaments.

He has informed Mumbai School Sports Association’s (MSSA) cricket secretary Nadim Memon about the same. “Yashasvi called me and said, ‘I want to give back to cricket and especially to budding cricketers, who are working hard to perform well at the initial stage of their career which is inter-school cricket.’ He has decided to sponsor a full cricket kit to the best batsman of the Harris Shield and Giles Shield tournaments,” Memon told mid-day on
Monday.

MSSA’s 129th Harris Shield is all set to kick off at the Parsee Gymkhana on Wednesday, October 29 with a record 200 school teams set to participate this year. “This is a commendable gesture by Jaiswal, who has played in the Harris Shield during his formative years. This reflects his deep sense of gratitude and respect for his roots, as well as his desire to give back to the platform that helped shape his cricketing journey,” Memon added.
