Akshay Kumar and Tabu were last seen together 25 years ago in the hit film Hera Pheri. The two actors are now set to reunite in Priyadarshan`s 2026 release Bhoot Bangla. The film not only marks Priyadarshan’s reunion with Akshay but also with Tabu. The Haider actress revealed that she has not been in touch with Akshay over the years but says he is still the same person.
Tabu on reuniting with Akshay Kumar
In a chat with ETimes, Tabu shared that she had stayed in touch with Priyadarshan, who directed Hera Pheri, but not with Akshay. “I didn’t know what to expect. I hadn’t worked with Akshay after Hera Pheri, and we hadn’t even met socially very often over the years. I had stayed in touch with Priyan, so I knew he would be exactly the same person.” She added that Priyadarshan is still as “impatient and vocal about what he feels.”
Talking about Akshay Kumar, she said, “His humour and energy are the same. He still wakes up at 4 am, finishes early, and heads home, which is a very good thing for the rest of us. He always says, ‘jaldi sona chahiye,’ and reminds everyone he doesn’t go to parties. That part of him hasn’t changed at all. Of course, we’ve all grown up now, but the essence of who he is — that’s still the same.”
About Bhoot Bangla
Bhoot Bangla went on floors in January this year in Rajasthan. After beginning work at the Chomu Palace in Jaipur, the cast — including Kumar, Tabu, Paresh Rawal, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Mithila Palkar — shot in Hyderabad and Mumbai. Tabu and Akshay filmed an elaborate climax sequence in April in Hyderabad.
The film is highly anticipated as it marks Kumar and Priyadarshan’s reunion after 15 years. Backed by Ektaa R Kapoor, the movie blends fantasy, horror, and humour to explore the theme of black magic. A source told mid-day earlier this year, “With Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Priyadarshan tackled the myth of spirits and highlighted a mental health issue. This time, he will examine black magic, a practice many in India believe in. The script refers to some of the oldest Vedas while making its case against witchcraft, curses, and sorcery.”
