Keshav Maharaj, the captain of the Pretoria Capitals, recently shared insights on his strategy for leading South Africa’s spin attack in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. Following a victory over Durban’s Super Giants in the SA20 tournament, Maharaj emphasized the importance of gaining match experience ahead of the global event. “While we shouldn’t look too far ahead, this is a fantastic chance for us to get valuable practice. We’ve only played one series in India so far, making this an excellent opportunity to prepare,” he remarked.

When discussing the nuances of T20 cricket, the seasoned spinner highlighted the significance of resilience. “In T20 matches, there are times when you concede runs, but you also take wickets and maintain economy. It’s crucial to stay committed to your process and put in the hard work. The game has its ups and downs, but I always maintain a positive mindset,” the 35-year-old athlete explained.

In their recent SA20 match, the Pretoria Capitals set a formidable target of 201/4 in 20 overs, thanks to a stunning 118-run performance from opener Shai Hope, who struck nine fours and nine sixes. On the bowling front, Kwena Maphaka, David Wiese, and Gerald Coetzee each took a wicket for the Super Giants.

Despite Jos Buttler’s impressive unbeaten 97, the Durban Super Giants fell short, all out for 186 runs in 19.4 overs, losing by 15 runs. Lungi Ngidi and Gideon Peters shone for the Capitals, each taking three wickets.

As South Africa gears up for the T20 World Cup 2026, they find themselves in Group D, alongside Afghanistan, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Arab Emirates. The Proteas will kick off their campaign against Canada on February 9 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, wrapping up group play against the UAE on February 18 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
