Sunil Gavaskar, the former captain of India, asserts that the team’s inability to secure strong starts was a crucial factor in their ODI series defeat against New Zealand. He emphasizes that Indian batters need to take inspiration from Virat Kohli’s approach to pacing an innings, highlighted by his impressive 124 runs. Gavaskar noted, “Kohli needed more substantial backing from his teammates, which he didn’t receive. A significant issue for India throughout the series was their poor starts. The team consistently struggled to begin their innings effectively, making it difficult to chase down the larger totals set by New Zealand,” he shared with JioStar.
