In light of the ongoing discussions regarding the T20 World Cup 2026 clash between India and Pakistan, Rajeev Shukla, vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), stated that the Indian board is placing its trust in the International Cricket Council (ICC) to make a decision. “We are leaving everything in the hands of the ICC. We will adhere to whatever resolution they arrive at,” he remarked. Recently, Pakistan announced its intent to skip the group stage match against India, scheduled for February 15 at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo. This move appears to be in solidarity with Bangladesh, which has expressed reluctance to travel to India for the prestigious tournament. Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly voiced his astonishment at Pakistan’s choice, emphasizing the importance of every match in such a significant event. “Why back out of a World Cup? They are already playing in Sri Lanka. I’m truly surprised by Pakistan’s decision. Every point counts in a World Cup,” he noted. As it stands, both teams have played one match each in the T20 World Cup 2026. Currently, India leads Group A with a net run rate (NRR) of +1.450 and two points, while Pakistan holds the second position with a NRR of +0.240 and also two points. The Green Shirts are set to face the USA on February 10 at the Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground, while the Men in Blue will compete against Namibia on February 12 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. With Team India captain Suryakumar Yadav having delivered an impressive performance in the previous match, it will be intriguing to see if he maintains his form. The Indian squad for the T20 World Cup includes: Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, and Rinku Singh.
