In a splendid celebration of sports, the Bombay Gymkhana (BG) paid tribute to 65 iconic athletes during its family day event on Friday. Many of these remarkable individuals, who have either been members of the club or made significant contributions to their respective sports, were recognized for their achievements. For those unable to attend, representatives graciously accepted the awards on their behalf. Among the celebrated athletes were Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar, cricket pioneer Nari Contractor, former Indian hockey captain MM Somaya, and renowned snooker player Yasin Merchant. Additionally, posthumous accolades were awarded to cricketing greats Dilip Sardesai and Ajit Wadekar, among others. Also included in the list of honorees was media mogul and writer Khalid Ansari, who has covered nine Olympic Games. Gavaskar expressed his gratitude, stating, “This is one of my most cherished moments as this is the club. Honoring those who have passed is a testament to the class and legacy of Bombay Gymkhana.” Each sportsperson received a commemorative plaque in recognition of their contributions.
